Patience for Entrepreneurs

7

Its summer and so for that reason Ill break from my insistence on pragmatic advice and write on a topic you might consider fluff. Yet its the biggest mistake I see small business owners make, including me. We have no patience. I think that its a given that a requirement for being an entrepreneur is to have a low grade case of ADD, or in my case, ADHD with an emphasis on the H. And in marketing, that will kill you.

I cant tell you how many times a client tries something and when there are no immediate results says “Well that doesnt work.” Its like lifting weights one day and expecting that tricep cut to develop overnight. Im not suggesting that we all go out and spend a bajillion dollars on advertising during American Idol. But I do think that in order for your PR and marketing tactics to work you have to learn to wait a bit. Here are a few tips to use to figure out if youre too impatient.

1. Are you measuring your campaign results by the number of orders youre getting off each initiative? In a word, DONT. Look at your website hits instead, or the traffic in your store. Whats the first step toward buying your product or service? Do they request a brochure? Do they visit the website? Measure by those “first steps” in the short term.

2. Are you changing your marketing strategy on a weekly or monthly basis? WRONG. You had better have confidence in your strategy (or your consultant) from the start. Nothing works if you dont believe in it 100% from the beginning. Switching around what youre doing on a constant basis and youll end up running circles.

3. Are you relying on only one outreach method? It may work now, but it will stop working eventually. Or youll end up trying one thing after another. BLEND your messaging channels. If youre doing radio, connect it to an online promotion as well. Trying guerilla marketing? Make sure youve got some PR working in conjunction with those “on the ground” techniques.

Particularly in the online world, patience is the key to success. Jay Conrad Levinson, the founder of Guerilla Marketing, believes that patience is the most important characteristic of successful entrepreneurs. Be confident in your approach. Measure it wisely. And then, like that old farmer in the field, be patient and watch the seeds of your marketing work grow.

Entrepreneur, Goal Setting!

11

Home based business, online business, MLM or if you are in direct sales, you have to be goal oriented to be successful. If you are new or experienced, without a goal the chances are you will be part of the 97% of entrepreneurs that will fail this year. Knowing how to set up your goals, how to break them down will play a major part of all entrepreneur success.

If you are new, you goal may be to quit your job or make enough money so your spouse can stay home. If you are experienced, you goal might be to win a major competition within your organization. Either way, the 1st step is to establish your main goal. The reason is we will work from the top to the bottom to establish a plan of action to achieve your goals.

For the sake of this article, we will use the new entrepreneur as an example. So lets you make $4,000 a month at your current job. To replace your income, you will need to make around $3,500 monthly with your online business. So write $3,500 at the top of a board or a blank piece of paper.

Next we need to figure out how many sales you need to make to create a $3,500 income. So lets say the average sale with your business is $100 and your commission for each sale is $50. So to make $3,500, you need make 70 sales each month which would equal $7,000 in sales and $3,500 in income. Write on your board 70 sales below your main goal.

After that we need to establish how many leads every month you will need to make 70 sales. You find out that your business model average is that you make a sale for every 10 leads (this is just an example) so you will need 700 leads to make $7,000 in sales. Write on your board 700 leads monthly below your monthly sales.

The last step is to breakdown the number of monthly leads into a daily number of leads. So if you need 700 leads every month, than you need 23.3 leads per day. Write 23.3 leads on your board below your monthly leads.

Work with the daily number, celebrate every time you achieve you daily goal with a small reward. If you meet your daily goal, you will meet your monthly goal and first thing you will know is that you will hand your letter of resignation to your boss with a big smile on your face. One last advice, keep your goals very visible to you at all time. Make sure you can see them every day and dont make too much fun of your boss when you quit.

To your success,Ghyslain

Entrepreneur Spirit 3

Some people think becoming an entrepreneur is so difficult. They often think that to be an entrepreneur, money is the main factor. Actually, there is something else such as mental preparation that plays an important role.

Some people choose to be entrepreneurs because they do not want to suffer tight competition in the workforce, to have the desire for unlimited earnings, to have the freedom to determine their own destiny, and to be more independent or to have extra satisfaction on their personal achievement.

In the early stages of becoming entrepreneurs, however, people should realize that their income can be less than before, no more company allowances. Not mentioning that they have to work harder and longer hours, with the responsibility of employing their workers.

Moreover, they should cope with critics from their environment about how stupid they are for letting go such a good job with good payments and benefits.

People should have more than one income source, but by being entrepreneurs, they are working for themselves, and they alone will determine how much they want to earn and how.

Tips for new entrepreneurs:
Start with a low working capital, so people can minimize their potential loss that may occur.
The other advantage is to train to survive in the new business with minimum facilities.
Be flexible; entrepreneurs should revise their business concept with current trends and economical conditions.
It is recommended to have a mentor who can share knowledge and give advises on critical points.
Start with your hobbies.
By doing so, hopefully they can cope with the frustration and do not give up when they have to deal with difficulties.
Sometimes it is a good idea to do a completely new business idea that might bring less competitors.

Starting a new business needs capital. It is a safe way to use their own savings, because they do not have to pay interests or risk their assets when taking business loans from a local bank.

Avoiding interests should be considered since it is hard for a new business to gain profits during its first months of operation. It can take their breath away to pay high interests.

For people with a strong network, they can look for partners to cooperate with, so they also can share the capital.

Having a business does not mean that people will earn profits right away. Entrepreneurs should think about getting loyal customers and give them competitive services.

After a business has been developed, entrepreneurs might need employees. it is important to put honesty as the first criteria. It is a fact that honest people become rare nowadays, and you do not want to be cheated by your employees.

Last but not least, entrepreneurs should understand that running a business is a process. There will be some critical moments before they can earn a stable profit.

Businesses For Sale – Satisfying Your Inner Entrepreneur

4

New Zealanders are renowned for their entrepreneurial skills and their desire for autonomy in the workplace while building something that will create a future for themselves, their families and the wider community. With the ability to build an empire out of number 8 wire, many turn their skills to developing and building a business. However, questions do arise as to the best course of action: is it best to start a business from scratch or to purchase an established business that can be streamlined under the careful operational skills of its new owners.

There are many options to purchase businesses for sale in New Zealand which offer the investor a great opportunity to enter the world of the entrepreneur or further extend their business portfolio. One of the key benefits of purchasing an established business is that the company will have a track record of success, staff, stock and a base of customers to which the platform is set for further expansion. There is simply less risk involved when purchasing a business compared with starting a business from scratch. With an established business, the new owners take over an operation that already has a reliable and proven income with future cash generating abilities, a recognised customer base and loyal following of the business, brand and its offerings, along with employees who are familiar with the business.

When considering how the business is to be financed or paid for, it is worth noting that banks and other lending institutions are generally more comfortable lending money for the purchase of a business with a track record. This reduces the risk involved not only for the investors and lenders, but for you as a new business owner.

However, due diligence is required in purchasing any business. Just because a business has a track record of income and profitability doesnt necessarily mean that it is going to carry into the future. Careful consideration must be given to the business fit with the skill set, knowledge and lifestyle that you currently have and your desires for the future. Choosing the right business is a key step, one that reflects your experience and abilities to ensure the future success of that business.

When considering the purchase of a business in New Zealand, it is highly advisable that you seek the advice of a professional consultant from a leading real estate agency. Their experience will greatly assist you in the pre-screening process, ensuring that you are viewing businesses that not only have a viable future, but suit your needs.

How To Get The Entrepreneur’s Magic

12

Have you ever noticed how highly successful entrepreneurs seem to attract success as if by magic, while others struggle as if the odds are stacked heavily against them?
What do you think is the key element that allows their almost effortless success?

Is it their background?
Well, a recent study of a group of successful entrepreneurs revealed that they all came from a range of different backgrounds, some from very poor backgrounds. Despite the different circumstances from where they started, they were still able to attract success. So, having a privilege background is no guarantee of success.

Is it their brain power?
Quite a few of them had very little formal education at a high level when they started out on their road to success.

Is it that they bought lots of personal development CDs and books?
Some of them had never even heard of goal setting!!

Is it the quality of the support they receive from friends and family?
No, some were discouraged by friends or family for trying to change their current circumstances.

Is it that they were loved more as children?
A few of them were orphans and had a pretty miserable childhood.

Is it that they dont watch TV or avoid reading the papers?
No, they read the newspapers, and watched television.

So, if none of these factors directly contributed to their success, how were these entrepreneurs all with different circumstances, able to achieve their dreams of creating wealth?

If you were to gather them all in a room and ask the question, What is the secret to your success?,the answers would be all different. But, if you looked a little closer at the answers, you would discover one key ingredient. It wouldnt be obvious at first, but it would be very evident.

And that key ingredient would be fear.

Fear is an important part of success, and its fear that keeps so many of us from reaching our goals, or fulfilling our dreams.

Learning how to conquer your fears is a very big part of attracting the success into your life that seems to have been eluding you. Its a key ingredient that entrepreneurs have to master on their path to success.

Given their varying backgrounds, entrepreneurs were pushed into action by the fear of not achieving their goals and the consequences of failure.

What Motivates the Typical Online Entrepreneur

17

The typical online entrepreneur is a different species insofar as they generally work alone and within an industry that can be very stressful and demanding. Being your own boss is great however many are prone to second thoughts about this when they find that everything’ is their responsibility! Without physical, or often times, moral support, people working online have to reach deep within themselves for the strength or motivation to get the job done. Obviously those who succeed on the internet have mastered the ‘art form’ of learning how to motivate themselves! Learning how to get motivated however always has its roots in a very strong reason as to ‘why’ it is people are working online! It is the ‘why’ of every entrepreneur that ultimately keeps them moving forward!

Here are the 3 biggest ‘whys’ entrepreneurs use when learning how to motivate themselves in order to maintain the drive necessary to succeed on the internet.

Money

Always a big motivator, money is one of the most ‘popular’ reasons people market on the internet. Whether it is for need or perhaps to expand an already existent ‘offline’ business earning or increasing an income is a powerful and popular force for people to be working online.

Passion

Some people have taken advantage of the easy to use and inexpensive internet platform to pursue a personal passion. Whether it is a cause, hobby or perhaps a business idea, if it is fueled by passion there is little doubt that these people will lack motivation.

Lifestyle

Most internet businesses involve working online from home or actually anywhere one may choose and this is a very attractive option. In addition, the potential for earning a significant income is very real due to the access you have to a global audience, on a 24/7 basis no less! A lifestyle like this is hard to ignore and even harder to not strongly desire! Even working longer hours is not an issue since you can pick and choose where and when you work!

As we have spoken about here today the typical online entrepreneur must absolutely posses some strong motivations in order to be successful working online. Due to the ‘isolated’ nature of internet marketing, individuals must learn how to get motivated and stay that way without the help or support of others. For this reason their motivations need to be strong and lasting and 3 of the most common motivations people have for working online are reviewed above. As you can see any of these 3 factors that drive people to succeed on the internet are very strong. It is an absolute must however that the individual has the great ‘desire’ or ‘need’ first or they will not be able to sustain their efforts and achieve success.

Qiqqa Entrepreneur Wins 5k

3

James Jardine from the University of Cambridge in the UK won third prize in the post-graduate category of the Santander University Entrepreneurship Awards.

He scooped 5,000 for his company Qiqqa.com a company that provides free software which helps students and researchers manage information.

The awards aim to support and encourage university students to pursue their business ideas and are open to students from all 58 universities within the Santander programme.

To mark the fifth anniversary of Santander Universities in the UK, Santander chief executive, Ana Botn, announced an additional 1.5m of funding to UK universities, taking its total investment to 7 million during 2012, as well as 100 new mobility grants of 2,500 available to UK students to study abroad.

She also extended the banks support for small businesses with the launch of a new programme to place graduates from the countrys top universities on internships with SMEs across the UK.

The programme to encourage entrepreneurialism amongst graduates is a collaboration between Santander and its university partners and aims to promote the benefits of working for a SME to third-year or recently graduated students, while providing smaller businesses with an injection of talent not always easy to obtain by companies with limited administration resources.

Santander will work with its partner universities to find students and companies who will benefit most from the scheme and will help with placement and administration, including project management, as well as part-funding a basic salary for the students.

Ana Botn said: Youth unemployment and particularly graduate unemployment is one of the most pressing issues for the UK economy. We hope our new programme offering 500 student internships to SMEs can help provide our talented graduate community with the opportunity to gain vital experience in the work place, whilst opening their eyes to the benefits of working for smaller companies.

SMEs have not typically attempted to compete with the graduate recruitment schemes of the big FTSE players and we hope that this initiative will give a wider range of companies the benefit of fresh, young talent.

As the engines of progress and invention, universities have an important role to play in incubating the enterprises of tomorrow. Santander is proud to be supporting and recognising the entrepreneurial skills demonstrated by students through our Entrepreneurship Awards, as well as announcing an additional 1.5 million of funding to support British universities, taking our total investment to 7 million in the UK and 120 million globally, this year.
